Candidates will be allowed some time to talk about their qualifications and platforms, and respond to questions posed to them, organizers say.

FORT QU’APPELLE — With the municipal election coming up in mid of November, the Calling Lakes Chamber of Commerce will be providing a forum for the municipal candidates in the Town of Fort Qu’Appelle to answer questions from the Chamber, as well as the general public.

“The Chamber’s purpose in hosting this event is to facilitate a respectful dialogue between candidates and provide a valuable service to the community,” explained Noel Geremia. He is the president of the Calling Lakes Chamber of Commerce.

“This is not considered an atmosphere for debate. Candidates will not be given an opportunity to debate issues with their fellow candidates. They each will be allowed some time to talk about their qualifications and platforms, and simply be responding to the questions posed to them within a given time frame.”

Geremia added that the questions posed by the Chamber will focus on issues that will impact the business community, such as infrastructure funding, taxation and regulation. The general public, however, will have the opportunity to ask questions of the candidates.

The Meet The Candidates Night will be held on Monday, Nov. 4, starting at 7 p.m. in the hall at the Fort Qu’Appelle Legion. The general public is invited to come to take in the event. The public can also submit questions for the candidates via email at [email protected] by Monday, Oct. 28 at 4:30 p.m.
