Assiniboia Council to evaluate budget, establish a new mill rate

ASSINIBOIA - The Assiniboia Town Council gathered for a meeting on May 14. Attending this meeting was Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; Councillors Kent Fettes, Patrick Grondin, Graham Harvey, Peter Kordus, Renee Clermont; plus CAO Clint Mauthe and Kerri Martin.

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Public acknowledgements was given to the Assiniboia Times. The agenda adopted was presented. Moved by  Grondin/Clermont.

The minutes of the April 23 meeting were accepted as presented and adopted as read. Moved by Fettes/Kordus.

The minutes of finance and admin committee of April 3 were accepted and adopted as read. The minutes of Assiniboia Museum Board meeting of March 27 were accepted and adopted as read. Moved by Grondin/Harvey.

CAO Clint Mauthe provided a report on town updates. This included:

• nine of 12 water mains are now done.

• lifeguards for the pool have been hired.

• councillors for the summer program have been hired.

• four dugouts at the ball diamonds have now been rebuilt.

• the splash park at the pool will be operational once again for the 2024 summer season.

- Rubber deck at the pool is being redone now

- The pool parking lot needs upgrading done asap

- New firepits have been installed at the campgrounds for this year.

This CAO report was accepted and adopted as read. Moved by Grondin/ Kordus.

A list of paid accounts were accepted and adopted as presented. Moved by Fettes/Harvey.

Request for Decisions

• Council meeting dates.  Only one meeting was scheduled for May due to conflicting meetings.  June meetings will be held 11 and 25. Moved by Fettes/Harvey.

• Roll uncollectibles to taxes was passed. Moved by Grondin/Kordus.

• The next election of council and mayor will be Wednesday, November 13. Nominations day is Wednesday, October 9.

• Approval of 2023 audited financials was approved. Moved by Fettes/Harvey.

•  The 2024 budget Operating and capital. Councillor Fettes motioned to relook at the budget to try to maintain the mill rate at 10.25 with no raise. A bylaw was moved to establish a mill rate. This was tabled until next meeting. Council rescinded motion 258/10/20. Moved by Fettes/Harvey.

Reports were given by each councillor as to meetings and or events attended since the last meeting.

Meeting adjourned, The next town council meeting will be June 11.
