ALIDA - Feb. 4 and 5 were the dates for Alida’s first annual Oilmen/Farmer’s Bonspiel with eight registered teams. When the first two games were completed on Friday evening the eight teams saw themselves being auctioned off. This was a very successful event for the curling club. Curling began again when the auction was completed and this eventually brought the first day to a close.
Following breakfast Saturday morning the curling continued for the second day. Results of the bonspiel were as follows: A event was won by Team Boutin Oilfield Service of Carlyle. This was the top team to be sold and purchased by Gold Star (Lloyd East). Team Gold Star Service of Alida came in second; they were sold to the Old Timers – The Junks. The B event was won by Cowan Farms of Alida. They were purchased by Corey Jensen. Coming in second was Team Signature Safety Ltd. (Aaron & Betty DeJong of Lashburn). They were purchased by P & K (Pete/Kevin). Following the bonspiel a beef supper was served to approximately 95 guests including all participants.
At this time, I would like to welcome Peter and Joy Primmer to Alida. They purchased the former Boettcher house on First Street West (next to Tim Cowan’s residence). They originally hail from Manor. Peter works in Safety at Vertex. Hope you’ll enjoy your new home here in our little town.
I recently was informed that Rhonda Miller of Redvers had passed away suddenly at her home on Feb. 3 at the age of 65 years. She was one of the volunteers who helped assemble the Redvers & Area Community Newsletter – she will surely be missed. The Alida community extends condolences to her husband Steven, daughter Ashley, and sons, Courtlyn, Jordan, Koltyn, seven grandchildren as well as all other family members.
Sincere sympathy is also extended to Joey/Prudent Mailhiot and family on the sudden death of her brother-in-law Larry Hainsworth of Redvers on Feb. 5 at the age of 72 years. He is survived by his wife Lynda, adult children Terry, Tania and Sharla, eight grandchildren, as well as his siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. Condolences are extended to all other family members, relatives and friends.
The Sunday Breakfast Challenge was finally defeated on Feb. 6, when Kitchen Group 4 served up 49 breakfasts. So nice to see the new and the faithful attending. Next Sunday it will be Group 1 at the helm.
