Ice makers have been busy

ALIDA - There has been activity occurring at the Alida Rink these past days.

The ice makers have been busy, so nice to see things are happening again. Yes, not only has the skating ice been installed but that area of the rink has been fairly busy with lots of skating taking place, including some hockey practices as well.

Just a reminder folks – if you haven’t paid your skating fee yet, please do so as this is a means for our rink to survive. Now the curling ice has also been installed and that does make me happy. The curling club is planning on hosting their annual February bonspiel – the 20th year. Wow!

However, there’s a bit of a twist to the event this year – it will be our first annual Oilmen and Farmers Bonspiel. Fifty per cent of team must be oilfield or farming related. There’s a 16-team limit, don’t be disappointed and enter your team now. The deadline is Jan. 31. Contact Margaret at 306-443-2437 or 306-485-7245. See you at the rink.

The Alida community extends sincere sympathy to Ralph and Sheila White on the death of his sister Lyla North of Carnduff on Jan. 12. Lyla will be remembered by son Don (Melissa) North, daughters Sharlene (Cory) Scott, Shannon (Ed) Revet, grandchildren and great grandchildren, sister-in-law Jean White, brothers Walter White, Ralph (Sheila), Bob (Donna) White as well as numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces and good friends. A public graveside service will be held at Carnduff Cemetery in the spring.

Café 361 was closed on Jan. 13 due to a positive COVID test and was closed for the next five days. I was looking forward to it reopening, as one does miss the restaurant when it’s not open.

It was breakfast at the rink again on Jan. 16 with Kitchen Group 1 at the helm. They served up 36 breakfasts – this just falls short of the Sunday record of 38 set by Group 4. Way to go guys and gals. It sure is great to see the guys from Redvers coming down for breakfast very week. Next Sunday it will be Kitchen Group 2 in charge. Will they break the Breakfast Challenge record? Just keep in mind that COVID rules are mandatory.
