REGINA - The Grey Cup Festival kicked off in style Wednesday night on the REAL grounds with the SiriusXM Festival Kickoff Party.
A number of dignitaries including Premier Scott Moe, Regina Mayor Sandra Masters, Roughriders CEO Craig Reynolds and CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie took part in the event to officially launch the Grey Cup week festivities. They were joined by Roughriders legend George Reed who officially declared the Grey Cup Festival open.
That was immediately followed by the entrance of the Grey Cup. During the day, members of Saskatoon Police, RCMP, and the Canadian Armed Forces helped the Grey Cup make its way on highway 11 from Saskatoon to Regina, with community stops along the way in Davidson, Chamberlain, and Lumsden. The Cup was greeted by a mob scene of fans wanting to get photos of the revered trophy.
The culmination of the night came with the performance of Regina's own Colin James, who raised the roof of the Viterra International Trade Centre with his rock performance.
The Festival now gets under way in earnest running Thursday through Saturday on the REAL grounds, with more events planned as well for Grey Cup Sunday,
