UCHS continues to demonstrate citizenship

UCHS students continue to orchestrate events that pay it forward

UNITY ‑ At Unity Composite High School, one goal is to build responsible citizens.

Students continue to hold events and activities to benefit those in need outside of their school hallways. For instance, monthly fundraisers combine for a total donated to Telemiracle each year. Various student groups such as SLC, SADD, Activate, Positive School Climate Committee and the leadership team all take turns organizing a number of events all year long that will benefit others in their community, or province.

These fundraisers take on a flavour of fun-raising as they involve the entire student body and always involve a component of fun. Students and staff have opportunities to interact outside the classroom and experience plenty of feel-good moments knowing their efforts are helping someone else in the community.

The Foods 30 class hosted a chili cook-off Nov. 5. There were six teams including three from Foods 30, Mrs. David, the UCHS Office and the Unity Credit Union. The office won for best overall chili and $200 was raised for the Silvernagle family, who moved to Unity this fall and have a premature baby who requires intensive care.

Students have also held a couple of recent events to benefit the Raycraft family. Their son Frederick is undergoing stem cell therapy for the cancer he was diagnosed with.
