UNITY — Yet another Unity Minor Hockey alumni is seeing his hockey career and success story continue. The Western Hockey League Bantam draft that took place Dec. 9 involving bantam age players born in 2006 made for an exciting day for Carter Ralston of Unity.
Carter is the son of Mark and Tara Ralston and has played high calibre hockey from a young age. He was part of the West Central Wheat Kings AA hockey program until he was signed by the Tisdale Trojans AAA midget hockey club for this season.
When asked by the Press-Herald/SASKTODAY.ca about this news, Ralston responded, "I was pretty much in shock but so excited at the same time. I was in class and all my buddies on the team came in to my classroom and congratulated me. I was just super excited."
Ralston affirms that the weight of waiting for the draft to happen and wondering when and if you're going to get drafted is off his back now. He adds that other than that relief, nothing really changed yet for his hockey game as he will keep playing the way he is playing and continue dedicating to developing little details of his game.
Ralston is a 6'1", 165 lb. forward with the Trojans. He currently has six goals and five assists with his team. He will continue playing with the Trojans but his rights lie within the Regina Pats WHL team.
Regina Pats Scouting Director Dale McMullin told Rod Pederson on rodpederson.com, "Obviously the kids have to do their part going forward, but the proof in the pudding will be two years down the road, and hopefully we will be happy at that point too.”
Unity Minor Hockey has been the runway for a number of players who have worked their way to higher calibre teams in the AA or AAA programs.
