Supplies moving in for 1st Avenue project in Unity, slated for 2023

The road formerly known as Highway 21 will now be known as 5th Street East in Unity.

UNITY — The warm weather has given us a much appreciated break in November. Here’s hoping Jack Frost will give us a few more warmups this winter.

Of course, there is always lots going on to entertain us inside as well. One of our councillors was able to watch his son play hockey even though he was hundreds of miles away for work. With the Live Barn feature you can do playback and zoom in. Thanks to Recreation Director Lisa and staff for giving families this option.

The walking program is going upstairs in the Community Centre and for those looking for fresh air, Jake and the Public Works staff have the outdoor walking paths open.

The Chamber of Commerce has sponsors ready for Santa Claus Day at 2nd Avenue Cinema and the elves at Parkview will be lending a hand. The group of volunteers heading up Winter Wonderland have a full day of fun planned for our residents Dec. 8. We look forward to seeing everyone out taking part in the activities.

We’re excited to have a new addition to town office. Steven Schwartz has moved into the position of finance officer.

It’s good to see supplies moving in for our 1st Avenue project that has been slated to start next spring, once the ground thaws.

Old Highway 21 will now be 5th Street East. I think most of the heavy traffic has the new route in mind when accessing Unity. There shouldn’t be any large trucks through 5th Street East anymore. With the traffic on the reroute you can actually see Unity is much busier than it looked before.

Thanks for making Unity home.
