Season's end is upon community swimming pools

Macklin celebrating 10 years

Swimming season was a much welcome summer recreation option after several swimming pools in the Unity-Wilkie Press-Herald readership area were not open as a result of the pandemic in 2020. Alas, swimming season is coming to a close in our communities.

The Luseland Credit Union Swimming Pool will extend their season to Sept. 6. Recently the pool happily hosted a movie night and midnight swim for older swimmers. In their third season since opening this brand new recreation venue, the team at this pool say they are once again happy for another successful season, which was a very welcome option for the many hot days experienced this summer.

Kerrobert says their last day will be Aug. 27 and are now closing at 8:30 p.m. each night due to lack of lighting around the pool. This was a popular recreation option this summer that included several programs such as the park program. As of Aug. 12, Kerrobert pool reported 4,100 visitors for public swimming, which is the highest they have seen in six years. Their success is attributed to qualified swim instructors and lifeguards, town staff able to manage water chemistry and pool equipment and community support.

The Unity Credit Union Aquatic Centre will have its last day on Aug. 27, which residents are thankful for as it extends swim season in Unity by approximately a week compared to past seasons. The lifeguard team say they were happy for the support they received for their Drowning Prevention Activities near July’s end, as well as the support for public swimming, early bird swimming and aquasizes.

Wilkie swimming pool’s last day will be Aug. 24. The pool celebrated their season with the traditional water show that included a community barbecue, followed by the water show, public swimming and a movie at 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 18. As of press time, we had not heard back to an inquiry on the fundraising efforts for a new community swimming pool in Wilkie.

Macklin pool is celebrating 10 years of this new facility and their new corporate sponsor, Synergy Credit Union. Aug. 24 they will offer free hot dogs, bouncy tent with slide, door prizes, games and free admission for everyone that day.
