Kerrobert Recreation department has many updates for residents

Bobbi Hebron, Kerrobert Recreation Director, has many updates for residents for winter.

KERROBERT ‑ The road construction work in Kerrobert is finished for this year and GeeBees Construction will return in 2022 to continue the water and sewer line replacement project.

The arrival of fall hunters is a boost to the local economy as they are needing accommodations, food, fuel and other commodities.

Even though the haunted Kerrobert Courthouse story went viral, people are still supportive of the Kerrobert Courthouse Restoration Committee and events. A recent art show featuring local talent is one example. The group is planning a couple of Christmas-themed events that they are also hoping the community will support to help them fund the step restoration work.

The Kerrobert Rebels provided an exciting season and even though they lost out of provincial playoffs, the community is proud of the season these players gave the fans. The newly formed Kerrobert Football Association has announced a fundraiser to purchase new lights for the KCS football field.

Senior volleyball teams are now into their playoff season, with conferences taking place in Kerrobert Nov. 6, and the team travelling to regionals Nov. 13 with provincials set for the Nov. 19 weekend.

The recreation department and town facilities have reinstated mask wearing at indoor public spaces. Those under 18 years must wear a mask indoors unless eating, drinking or participating in sports. Those over 18 years can remove a mask when eating or drinking but must wear a mask when participating in activity unless their organization has implemented a proof-of-vaccination or negative-test requirement. This mandate includes the Kerrobert Tigers, the Kerrobert Ice Dawgs and the Mighty Ducks recreation hockey teams, the Kerrobert Curling Club, the Kerrobert Shuffle Club and the Walk this Way organization. Those over18 years must wear a mask during public skate time.

A proof-of-vaccination or negative-test policy will be implemented for public access to the Kerrobert Museum, Courtroom Gallery, Kerrobert Double Take Out Lounge and all public events held at the PCC. Children under the age of 12 are exempt from proof-of-vaccination or negative-test requirements.

Kinsmen’s recent donation of $800 to the Kerrobert KidSport program was much needed and appreciated.

COVID remains a concern to the community and fines are once again being handed out to businesses and organizations who are not following the guidelines. Organizations using town facilities must follow all guidelines until the concerns of COVID are behind us.

The Kerrobert Curling Club met last week to discuss the upcoming season. Team captains of the men’s league will be contacting previous members to get an idea of who is interested in curling this season. If you are interested in joining men’s curling, starting a women’s league, a mixed league, seniors’ league or family league, the club needs to hear from you. Contact Mark Neumeier at 306-494-7356, Brennan Murphy at 306-834-7044 or Drew Heidt at 306-834-7780 to express your interest.

There are two big public events coming up at the PCC including the winter market Nov. 17 and the town Christmas party Dec. 3. The Shuffle Club is looking to start early November. If you are interested in joining, please call the recreation office. They play Monday afternoons in the basement of the PCC.

Kerrobert Legion met last week and decided they will not host an open Remembrance Day ceremony on Nov. 11 this year due to COVID concerns. The committee will honour the day by laying a wreath, lowering the flag and reading the Roll of Honour. Poppy trays will also be put out throughout the community the last week of October.

Remember that “we are fighting a virus, not each other.” Stay well, friends, and please be kind.
