With McLurg High School 60th anniversary celebrations planned for the summer of 1973, residents were asked to include announcements of the anniversary celebrations so people who had moved away could plan visits home around the date of the celebrations.

Permission was given by the RM of Mariposa council to the CPR for removal of their station from the Hamlet of Broadacres.

Letters to the editor throughout the November issues of The Wilkie Press and The Northwest Herald revealed considerable controversary over the location of the school unit office, which was in Wilkie but some Unity residents were campaigning for it to be moved to Unity.

Leonard Boxell was named mayor of Unity by acclamation. Running for three council seats were Si Campbell, Stan Halstead, John Kraft, Madge Leeson, Emil Wiesner and Sally Young.

Pioneers Kohn Kaufman, 87 and father of the RM of Reford Reeve Louis Kaufman, and W.P. Carpenter, 96 and father of the RM of Buffalo Reeve Roy P. Carpenter, broke sod for a joint municipal project – the construction of a building in Wilkie to house the offices and a joint council chamber for both municipalities.

North West Terminal was busy drying grain and expected their dryer to be running until sometime in February, due to high moisture contents. In order to accommodate all the grain needing to be dried, NWT was storing the dried barley in piles on the ground.

Three Unity businesses on Main Street were broken into and small amounts of cash were taken. Until SaskTel completed repairs, the businesses – SARCAN, Murray Mitchell Agencies and Maljan Shoe Repair – were also without phone lines as the culprits had cut the lines.

At the Wilkie Legion’s Remembrance Day service, Jenny Wangler and Marlene Palahicki pinned poppies to a cross, one for each veteran’s name read aloud.
