UPDATED: Another goal achieved for Wilkie girl, signs with college team

Brooklyn Salewski will be part of the Lakeland Rustlers college team for the 2023-24 season.

WILKIE — Brooklyn Salewski started her hockey days at the rink in Wilkie and has moved onward playing a higher level of female hockey opportunities including the last three years competing with the Battlefords AAA Sharks.

Post-secondary hockey continuance was one of her goals. Brooklyn recently signed for the 2023-24 season with Lakeland Rustlers, achieving another hockey goal in her career. Brooklyn will be enrolled in Crop Technology out of the Vermilion, Alta. campus after high school graduation.

The 5’3” 17-year-old is currently tied for third spot in team scoring and is relied upon as both a forward and for her defensive work on the ice with the Sharks.

“I am very excited and happy about this opportunity to continue playing hockey while I attend college. The coaching staff and players are all a great group of people and I look forward to being part of their team,” says Brooklyn.

Sharks Assistant Coach Kennedy Harris adds, "I am happy to see Brooklyn will be pursuing hockey at a higher level next year. She is a player who can be counted on in all areas of the game. She can truly do it all. She works hard and is a great leader for us on and off the ice. Lakeland is lucky to have her and we are excited to see her succeed at the next level. She is very deserving of the opportunity."

Until then, Brooklyn will continue to contribute her efforts to both her academics as well as the team success with the Sharks and says she is thankful for those who helped get her to this point.

After a two-game Saskatoon series Nov. 12 weekend, the Sharks are on the road for the remaining games in November. You can find their schedule on the website
