MEADOW LAKE – Two trials have been set for an Île-à-la-Crosse man accused of unlawfully confining and assaulting a man.

One trial for 29-year-old Niles McCallum stemming from an August 2021 incident is set for July 11, 2022, in Île-à-la-Crosse Circuit Court. He is facing charges of assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement, using a firearm while committing an indictable offence of forcible confinement, pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

McCallum and Kristina Ducharme, 36, were arrested Aug. 5 after Île-à-la-Crosse RCMP received a complaint that a man went to a residence on Lajeunesse Avenue and was threatened by an armed man. The victim was eventually allowed to leave.

McCallum’s trial on two assault charges from a separate incident will be held Dec. 8, 2021.

Ducharme was charged with four firearms related offences. Officers seized a modified firearm, ammunition, a machete, 10 smartphones, three tablets and a small amount of crystal methamphetamine from her.

Ducharme was released in September after a show cause hearing. McCallum was denied bail in October.

Ducharme appears in court again on Dec. 22 to enter a plea.

The charges against McCallum and Ducharme haven’t been proven in court.

Île-à-la-Crosse is about 218 kilometres north of Meadow Lake.
