Man accused of Green Lake shooting denied bail in Meadow Lake court

Scott Maurice is charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unlicensed possession of a firearm and obstruction of a peace officer

MEADOW LAKE – A Saskatoon man accused of shooting a man in Green Lake was denied bail Tuesday in Meadow Lake Provincial Court.

Scott Maurice, 28, has been in custody since he was arrested in August. Meadow Lake RCMP say they were dispatched at about 12:20 p.m. on Aug. 1 for a report of a shooting at a residence on Beaver Road in Green Lake.

Police say they found a man with a gunshot wound outside of the residence. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police determined that Maurice had fled the scene in a vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop it but the driver wouldn’t immediately stop. Police continued to follow the vehicle and eventually pulled it over on Highway 55.

Maurice was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unlicensed possession of a firearm, obstruction of a peace officer, and failing to comply with a demand for a breath sample.

The passenger of the vehicle, 26-year-old Marcella Esperanse from Beardy’s First Nation was also arrested. She was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm/weapon/ammunition in a vehicle. Esperanse failed to appear in court in August and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.

Maurice is scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Nov. 1 to speak to his matter.

Officers from the North Battleford RCMP General Investigation Section, North Battleford RCMP Forensic Identification Section and Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services assisted in the investigation.
