Students learn the science of making smarter buildings

Smarter Science Better Buildings, a program of the Saskatchewan Environmental Society, combines interactive displays specific to energy efficiency in today's buildings.

NORTH BATTLEFORD — The Western Development Museum in North Battleford is hosting Grade 7 students for a half day of learning about energy efficiency in homes from May 9 to May 27. Friday, a group from Notre Dame Elementary School attended.

Smarter Science Better Buildings, a program of the Saskatchewan Environmental Society, combines interactive displays specific to energy efficiency in today's buildings, with inquiry into the energy efficiency of the historical buildings on site.

Transportation of students to the museum is subsidized by project sponsor SaskEnergy.

The Smarter Science Better Buildings program is a partnership between the SES and the Western Development Museum focusing on energy-efficient homes. Designed to meet outcomes in the Grade 7 science, heat, and temperature unit, students visit one of the four WDMs in Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, North Battleford, Yorkton, and Moose Jaw) or a location in Prince Albert for a half-day program. SSBB combines interactive displays specific to energy efficiency in buildings, with inquiry into the energy efficiency of the historical buildings at each site.

SES works towards environmental sustainability through public education, policy development, and community events.
