P.A. Police help boy, 11, after he falls into river

An 11-year-old boy fell into the river but was able to get himself out of the water and the police had to help him get back onto the sidewalk

PRINCE ALBERT – An 11-year-old boy fell into the river and was able to get himself out of the water but he needed the police's help to get back onto the sidewalk. 

Police say that at approximately 6 p.m. on Monday evening, they were called to the 1200 Block of River Street West for a report of a youth who had fallen into the river. He was able to get out of the water and onto the embankment before police arrived, but he was unable to get back up to the sidewalk. Patrol officers worked to navigate the slippery, wet conditions to reach the boy and were aided by additional officers, who helped lift the boy to safety. One officer received minor injuries during this rescue.

Police would like to remind residents to keep their distance from the riverbank at all times as the warming weather can lead to dangerous and slippery conditions.

Over the long weekend, Prince Albert Police responded to 269 calls for service and arrested 35 people.

Weapons complaints

A 30-year-old Prince Albert woman was arrested following an incident in the 2200 Block of 2nd Avenue West. Police were called to the area around 2 p.m. on Sunday for a report of a woman threatening people with a machete and took one person into custody.

Aggravated assault

Police responded to a report of a stabbing in the 200 Block of 15th Street West around 10 p.m. Saturday. The suspect then fled the area. Officers located him in the 300 Block of 15th Street West and he was taken into custody following a short foot chase. A 23-year-old is charged with robbery, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon in relation this incident.

Mischief calls

Police arrested a 20-year-old man after residents in the area around Oliver Way reported suspicious activity early Wednesday morning. Residents called police just after 3:30 a.m. to report a man attempting to breaking in to a vehicle. Police arrested the suspect at the scene and he is charged with mischief and breach of court order.

Police arrested a 35-year-old Prince Albert man and he is facing charges of mischief and possession of break in tools following a report of someone breaking into mailboxes early Wednesday morning. Police responded to a report of suspicious activity around 1:30 a.m. in the 600 Block of 5th Avenue East. The suspect was arrested at the scene.
