North West COVID cases one sixth of highest number

NORTH WEST ZONE – It's been five weeks since the North West hit its highest peak in active COVID-19 cases. On Oct. 11, active cases had peaked at 726, then began a plummet that saw the number down to 125 on Monday.

That's less than one-sixth of what it was at its highest.

Two weeks ago, on Oct. 25, the North West was at 328 active cases, and hospitalizations were down from 35 on Oct. 11 to 23. Recoveries were up from 6,947 to 7,890.

This week, hospitalizations declined even more, down to 10 on Monday. Recoveries were up to 8,320.

On Monday, the province announced 80 per cent of eligible Saskatchewan residents have received at least two doses of COVID-19 vaccine. 
As vaccination rates have increased, the number of new cases in Saskatchewan has gone down. The seven-day average of new cases is now 149, 70 per cent lower than its peak in late September, shortly after the proof of vaccination policy was introduced.

In the North West zone, the number of people fully vaccinated is up to 51,451, from 46,306 on Oct. 11. That was 56.2 per cent of the zone's entire population, eligible and ineligible. The new figure is 62.4 per cent. Total population in the North West zone is 82,386.

As of Nov. 8, there were 14 active cases in North West zone 1, down from 32 on Oct. 11.

There were 37 active cases in North West zone 2, (which includes Lloydminster, the area most affected in recent months), down from 184 on Oct. 11.

There were 41 active cases in North West zone 3, down from 62 on Oct. 11.

There were 33 active cases in North West zone 4 (the Battlefords), down from 50 on Oct. 11.
