All charges against an Onion Lake woman arrested in a huge drug bust earlier this year were stayed.
Bianca Lasas, 20, was facing numerous drug trafficking and firearms offences.
When charges are stayed the Crown can still bring the charges 鈥渂ack to life鈥� within one year of the day they were stayed. It鈥檚 rare, however, that the Crown will bring the charges back and prosecute the individual.
Lloydminster RCMP arrested Lasas and Courtlin Littlewolfe, 34, both from Onion Lake Cree Nation after a police pursuit.
According to RCMP, an officer saw a suspicious vehicle with no license plate in Lloydminster at about 4 a.m. on Jan. 10, 2021. The officer tried to stop the vehicle but the driver sped away. Police pursued the vehicle, which eventually lost control on an icy road and smashed into a median. Littlewolfe allegedly left the vehicle and Lasas in the vehicle before fleeing on foot.
Police arrested Lasas at the scene and seized more than $47,000 in drugs from the vehicle, including methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin. They also found more than $8,000 in cash, a handgun, ammunition, a knife, and red paisley bandanas generally worn by Westside Outlaws street gang.
A week later RCMP arrested Littlewolfe in Onion Lake.
Littlewofe still faces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of a restricted firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, obstruction of a peace officer, identity fraud, flight from police, dangerous operation of a vehicle and driving while prohibited.
He appears next in Lloydminster court on April 13 and is expected to enter a plea and elect how he wants to be tried.
The charges against Littlewolfe haven鈥檛 been proven in court.
