B'fords RCMP Report: 29 assault investigations undertaken

THE BATTLEFORDS — Battlefords RCMP responded to 506 calls for service Wednesday, June 15, through Tuesday, June 21.

29 assault investigations

• Report on June 16 at 2:30 p.m. of a male who had broken into the residence of a woman on Winder Crescent in North Battleford and assaulted her. The victim reported being punched in the stomach. The suspect is known to the victim. The victim did not require medical attention. On June 21, shortly after 7 p.m. the same suspect was reported to have attempted to steal the same victim’s phone during an altercation, also on Winder Crescent. The suspect was located and arrested. A 30-year-old man was charged with several offences, including assault, robbery, break and enter and obstruction.

• 911 call of a physical altercation between two women on the 900-block 102nd Street in North Battleford shortly before 10 a.m. on June 18. The victim did not sustain any serious injuries during the incident. The two parties were known to each other. A 36-year-old woman was arrested and charged with assault and failing to comply with a release order.

• 911 call of an assault north of Cochin at 9 p.m. on June 20. Victim reports she was giving the suspect a ride when the suspect became violent. The victim was assaulted and the suspect then threw her keys out of the vehicle. A 32-year-old man was later arrested without incident and released to appear in court on one count of assault.

• Police were called to a residence on the 1300-block 103rd Street in North Battleford at 9 a.m. on June 19. A male was reported to have become upset and assaulted two women during an argument. Neither victim sustained serious injuries. All parties were known to each other. A 29-year-old man is facing charges of assault with a weapon, assault and mischief.

• Call of an assault on the 1400-block 109th Street in North Battleford at 9 p.m. on June 21. Male suspect was reported to have assaulted a woman, at one point striking her in the leg with a hammer. A 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and failing to comply with a release order.

• Report of a robbery on the Moosomin First Nation at about 8:30 p.m. on June 18. A male in his forties was taken to hospital suffering from a hand injury sustained after he was assaulted with a machete by individuals he was giving a ride to. The suspects then stole the victim’s vehicle which was recovered later that evening. Two suspects have since been identified. The incident remains under investigation.

21 break and enter investigations

• Attempted break and enter to a business on Railway Avenue East in North Battleford at 3 a.m. on June 16. Two suspects were reported to have attempted to gain entry into a fenced compound. Nothing was taken.

Break and enter to a business on Railway Avenue East in North Battleford in the early morning of June 19. Two barbecues and a spa reported stolen.

• Break and enter to a business on Railway Avenue East in North Battleford shortly after 3 a.m. on June 20. Suspect was reported to have stolen a kayak. A 24-year-old male was later arrested and the property recovered.

• Break and enter to a business on the 800-block 104th Street in North Battleford over the weekend. Two vehicles were reported stolen, a Grey 2001 BMW with no plate and a Grey 2018 Chevrolet Cruze with Saskatchewan licence 682HUT.

• Break and enter to a garage on the 1200-block 106th Street in North Battleford early hours of June 21. A suitcase welter was among items stolen.

• Break and enter to a garage on the 1300-block 96th Street in North Battleford during the day on June 21.

• Break and enter reported to a business on the 900-block 101st Street in North Battleford at 9:30 a.m. on June 16. A 39-year-old male was arrested on scene and charged with one count of break and enter.

• Report of suspicious persons trying to break into a shed in a yard on the 700-block 100th Street in North Battleford at 7 a.m. on June 17. Two suspects were located and arrested by members at the scene. A 29-year-old woman was charged with break and enter. A 37-year-old man was charged with break and enter, mischief, obstruction, fail to comply with an undertaking, possession of stolen property and uttering threats.

• Break and enter to a garage on the 1300 block of 95th Street in North Battleford between June 17 and 18. Suitcase with clothing among items reported stolen.

• Garage break-in on the 1300-block 99th Street reported on afternoon of June 20. A vehicle was gone through and an electric bike reported stolen.

Seven vehicle thefts

• Black 2016 Nissan Versa with Saskatchewan plate 820MLJ reported stolen from the Saulteaux First Nation at noon June 20.

• 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Saskatchewan licence 641KNP reported stolen from Abbott Avenue in North Battleford some time between June 19 and 20.

• Blue 2018 Toyota Highlander with Saskatchewan licence 557LDZ stolen from the 2100 block of 102nd Crescent in North Battleford early hours of June 21.

Nine traffic collisions

Two individuals charged with impaired driving

• A 33-year-old man is facing charges of impaired driving after the vehicle he was operating struck the median on Highway 4 in Battleford at 3 p.m. on June 18. He was arrested after walking away from the scene but was identified by witnesses.

A 21-year-old woman is facing charges of impaired driving and driving while prohibited after being observed by an member loudly yelling an order at a drive-through menu on Railway Avenue East in North Battleford shortly before 7 a.m. on June 18. She was found to have a blood alcohol level almost twice the legal level.

• Police were called to a residence on the Sweetgrass First Nation at 8:45 p.m. on June 16 to a report of a male armed with a firearm who had discharged the weapon inside the home. He was also reported to have pointed the firearm at an occupant and refused to allow them to leave the residence. The male was arrested after several hours with assistance from the RCMP Emergency Response Team and taken into custody. Braydn Fineday, 31, was remanded into custody on charges that include discharging a firearm while being reckless, careless use of a firearm, forcible confinement, uttering threats and pointing a firearm. The investigation is ongoing. No one was injured during the incident.
