B'fords RCMP Report: 17 break and enters investigated

A victim currently being treated in hospital in Saskatoon reported being assaulted several times over the past days with a hammer.

THE BATTLEFORDS — Battlefords RCMP responded to 541 calls for service from Wednesday, July 6, through Tuesday, July 12.

10 missing persons reported

One investigation remains active. Shayden Swiftwolfe remains in the missing category. There has been some active social media activity and he is believed to be in or around the city of North Battleford.

24 assault investigations

• Police were called to a residence on the 2000-block 99th Street in North Battleford in the early evening of July 11. A male in his forties was found suffering from injuries all over his body. The victim reported being assaulted several times over the past days with a hammer. The victim is currently being treated in hospital in Saskatoon for his injuries. A suspect who is known to the victim has since been identified. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

• Shortly after 10 a.m. on July 6, a woman was transported to hospital in North Battleford and reported being kicked at a residence in the city of North Battleford. She was suffering from bruising on her arms and legs. A 36-year-old man was later arrested. He has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 4 charged with one count of assault.

• Police were called to a residence south of Battleford at 8 p.m. on July 7 to a report of a male outside with a baseball bat. Upon arrival, no weapons of any kind were found, the male suspect in question was intoxicated and causing a disturbance. The male suspect became angry that police responded to a complaint of an intoxicated man yelling and causing a disturbance, and started yelling and causing a disturbance again. The male then threatened the members on scene and was subsequently arrested for breach of probation x 2, uttering threats x 5 and resisting arrest.

• A 911 call to attend a residence on the Saulteaux First Nation was received at 8:20 p.m. on July 8. A 35-year-old male was arrested on scene without incident. A woman in her late twenties reported being assaulted. She was not injured during the incident. The accused has since been released and is scheduled to appear later this summer charged with one count of assault.

• A 30-year-old male was arrested and is facing one count of assault after a 911 call advising of an assault in progress at a residence on the Sweetgrass First Nation. A woman in her twenties was located by members suffering injuries consistent with an assault. The victim did not require medical attention. The accused has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 21 in North Battleford.

17 break and enter investigations

• A 12-year-old youth and a 15-year-old youth are facing charges in connection to a break and enter to a business on Canola Avenue in North Battleford in the early morning hours of July 10. The youth were apprehending after being located in possession of property stolen from the business. Both are scheduled to appear in Youth Court later this summer.

• Break and enter to a business on River Valley Drive in North Battleford was reported shortly before 8 p.m. on July 10. A window was smashed to gain entry but the suspect appears to have fled quickly. It's unknown if anything was taken.

• Business compound on Thatcher Avenue in North Battleford was broken into over the past weekend, several pounds of copper wire reported stolen.

• A second business compound on Thatcher Avenue was also broken into over the weekend. Items taken include a battery and a catalytic converter.

Break and enter reported to a residence on Foley Drive in North Battleford in the afternoon of July 6th. • On July 7, police located two suspects attempting to sell items stolen from a residence and arrested the subjects. Both were also on conditions not to be in each other's company due to previous arrests for similar offences. Both were held in custody and appeared in court on July 8.

A 29 year old is charged with:

  • trafficking in stolen property
  • two counts of possession of stolen property
  • theft under $5,000
  • fail to comply with release conditions.

A 37 year old is charged with:

  • trafficking in stolen property
  • possession of stolen property
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • possession of break and enter tools

• Call made at 9:15 p.m. on July 9 reported a suspect attempting to break into a residence in Battleford. The suspect was located a short time later hiding in a neighbouring yard. A 17-year-old youth is facing charges of break and enter, possession of stolen property, and possession of a knife for a dangerous purpose.

• Break and enter to a garage on the 400-block 31st Street in Battleford in the early afternoon of July 10. A folding traveling bike and a gas can were among items stolen.

Six vehicle thefts

Blue 2016 Ford F150 with Saskatchewan licence 250GLJ reported stolen from 1200-block 102nd Street in North Battleford on the late afternoon of July 7.

2018 Green Hyundai Kona with Saskatchewan licence 567LYB stolen from Bunce Crescent in North Battleford on the early morning of July 11.

1995 Green Chevrolet K/V 10/1500 with Saskatchewan licence 927IWB reported stolen from the 1600-block 92nd Street in North Battleford in the early morning of July 12.

Battlefords RCMP are investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian collision north of the intersection of Territorial Drive and Carlton Trail in North Battleford. Shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, a vehicle was reported to have struck a pedestrian crossing the highway at the noted location. The male pedestrian in his sixties was transported by ambulance to Saskatoon hospital for treatment for serious injuries. At last report he is continuing to receive medical care for his injuries. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. The incident remains under investigation. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
