BJORKDALE — Well, winter has arrived and dumped a pile of snow all over Saskatchewan.
We went to the Saskatchewan Roughrider game in Regina on Saturday and it was a treacherous drive home Sunday morning with roads being closed from Regina to Swift Current. The highway from Regina to Fort Qu'appelle were extremely icy and several semis and vehicles were in the ditch. A semi had hit the ditch on the entrance of Fort Qu’appelle, causing vehicle traffic to halt at the top of the hill before you entered the town. A normal three hour drive turned into a five-and-a-half hour drive.
The Government of Saskatchewan will once again be partnering with the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) in accepting applications from communities for the Community Rink Affordability Grant (CRAG) – committing $1.7 million to the program for 2022-23. This funding has made a positive impact for the Bjorkdale Skating Rink and the Bjorkdale Curling Club and helps offset the many costs such as utilities in running and managing these facilities. Bjorkdale has already submitted their application in for the curling rink and skating rink for $2,500 that will go to each facility.
The Pasquia Porcupine Forest Management Area is holding a public engagement and information meetings in our area. Tuesday, Oct. 25 is the meeting in Porcupine Plain at 7:00pm and Thursday, Oct. 27 in Tisdale. These meetings are for information on Weyerhaeuser and Edgewood forest operations and provide a annual operating plan for harvest and reforestation. It also will provide a 20 year forest management plan.
On Saturday, Oct. 22, Tisdale Minor Hockey hosted an official’s clinic and two young Bjorkdale kids were in attendance. Grayson Vecchio and Aubrie Johnson are both getting certified to be hockey officials this year. It is a great way to learn the game and earn some extra cash along the way. They will be able to officiate the Bjorkdale under 9 and under 11 games in town. Also taking the officials course is Grace Mohr. Every town is always looking for young officials. Contact your local minor hockey association if your interested. Porcupine Plain will be hosting a official’s clinic on Nov. 20 and to contact Amber Kiehn if you are interested.
