Bjorkdale News: Area broker recognized for community leadership

Johnston Agencies owner Amber Hoffus of Porcupine Plain has been named the recipient of a community leadership award, a grant is funding 42 Veteran banners in Bjorkdale and two residents competed at cross-country provincials.

BJORKDALE — Provincial cross-country was held on Oct. 15, at the Wapiti Ski Hill and Bjorkdale had two participants.

Nolan Horn finished 61st in the province out of 96 runners in the boys senior division. Grace Mohr finished 60th in the province out of 81 runners in the girls senior division. Congrats to all the athletes.

In the spring of 2022, the Village of Bjorkdale received a grant through Veteran Affairs Canada. The Commemorative Partnership grant is committed to honouring those who served Canada in times of war, military conflict and peace, and to keeping the memory of their achievements and sacrifices alive for all Canadians.

To support this commitment, the Commemorative Partnership Program (CPP) provides funding to organizations undertaking remembrance initiatives. With the help of this grant, the Village of Bjorkdale has started to install 42 Veteran banners that will surround Bjorkdale memorial park. Bjorkdale’s Remembrance Day ceremony will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 10:50 a.m. at the community hall with a luncheon to follow and a walking tour of memorial park afterwards.

The announcement was made at the association’s Chair’s Banquet on Oct.13. This award – now in its fourth year – recognizes one IBAS member annually who has gone above and beyond to make a difference in their respective community. Johnston Agencies has made a positive impact within the Village of Bjorkdale and continues to be a proud supporter in all of Bjorkdale’s activities and non-profit orgainzation’s.
