Bjorkdale News: Community Christmas Party a success

The party raised money for the Bjorkdale Curling Club.

With more than 100 tickets purchase, the Bjorkdale Community Christmas Party was a sucess.

BJORKDALE — The Bjorkdale Community Christmas Party was held on Friday, Dec. 1 with over 100 tickets purchased.

The evening was filled with great food from Kristy McDonald from Archerwill.

The Bjorkdale Curling Club board had over 50 auction items and Eldon McCormick was the auctioneer for several of the bigger ticket items. The club is just putting the ice in and have yet to paint the lines. Anyone interested in league curling can call Verne Moen at 306-873-0450 or Marty Horn at 306-873-7892. The board acknowledges everyone who made the community Christmas party a great success.

Bjorkdale’s under 11 team had their first two games on the weekend of Dec. 2 and 3. They came away with two losses but hope to get more practice in as soon as the ice is ready at the Bjorkdale skating rink. The combined under 13 team with the Porcupine Blues has two Bjorkdale kids playing and they are currently at three wins and one loss for the season.

Porcupine Plain had their Minor Hockey day on Saturday, Dec. 2 and had a great day of hockey. The under 18 Tisdale Ramblers also have a Bjorkdale local, James van Haastert and are currently have a 1 – 7 record. The Ramblers pulled off a upset against the Porcupine Plain Posse on Saturday.

If there is anyone interested in helping flood the ice, please contact Tyson Wearing, Orin Bratton, Mark van Haastert, Scott Kehrig or Nicole Goldsworthy. Any help is appreciated. The Bjorkdale skating rink will be open as soon as the ice is ready to be used.

The Bjorkdale School will be hosting their annual Christmas concert on Thursday, Dec. 21st at 7 p.m. at the Bjorkdale hall. Everyone is welcome. The following day on Friday, Dec. 22, the last day of school, the school is planning a Winter feast, everyone is welcome.

The Village of Bjorkdale wants to advise that garbage pick up for Tuesday, Dec. 26 will be rescheduled to Wednesday, Dec. 27. The Village office will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 27 and will reopen on it’s regular day, Friday Dec. 29.
