FRERIKS: Joyce Marilyn

January 9, 1944 – April 2, 2017

The passing of Mrs. Joyce Marilyn (nee Schriml) Freriks of Aspen Manor, Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, SK, occurred at her residence on Sunday, April 2, 2017. She was 73 years of age. Joyce was born on Sunday, January 9, 1944, to Andrew β€œJacob” and Julia (nee Paydli) Schriml at Bruno, SK. She grew up there and attended school in the district. On May 2, 1964, Joyce married Wilfrid Freriks in St. John’s R.C. Church at Willmont, SK. Their union was blessed with three children, two daughters and one son. Joyce and Wilfrid began their life together on their farm one-mile east of Pilger, SK. Joyce was a busy homemaker who loved cooking and baking for her family, and always had something on hand when anyone stopped by. As well, she always planted and harvested a large garden and would share her bountiful produce. In her spare time, she pursued a variety of hobbies and interests, including sewing, quilting, bowling – mostly for the socializing, collecting Elvis keepsakes which she treasured, feeding and watching the birds in her back yard, visiting over a glass of wine with her best friend Sally, and taking part in the annual Pilger Pumpkin Festival. Joyce was also a member of the C.W.L. Her greatest source of pride and joy were derived from her children and grandchildren. Joyce will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her three children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild: Wendy (Terry) Hudema of Edmonton, AB, and family, Justin (Angeline) Hudema and their daughter Kianna, Chelsea Hudema, Nathan Hudema, and Dylan Hudema; Randal Freriks (Karen Placsko) of Pilger, SK, and their children Haley Freriks and Andrew Freriks; and Leanne (Nathan) Dierker of Humboldt, SK, and family, Jordon Dierker and Kassandra Dierker; one sister and two brothers: Donna (George) Meyer of Camrose, AB; Brian (Cathy) Schriml of Kamloops, BC; and Myles (Roberta) Schriml of Calgary, AB; and by her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfrid Freriks (April 22, 1999); a daughter (in infancy October 1965); her father, Andrew β€œJacob” Schriml (July 14, 1997); and by her mother, Julia (nee Paydli) Schriml (March 13, 2013). The Prayer Service was held at Holy Trinity R.C. Church, Pilger, on Friday, April 7, 2017, at 7:30 p.m., presided by Fr. Greg Smith-Windsor. Scripture readers were Nathan Hudema and Chelsea Hudema, and the eulogy was delivered by Brian Schriml. The Celebration of Life was held at Holy Trinity R.C. Church on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Greg Smith-Windsor. Others taking part were: Owen Witte, crossbearer; Valentine Pomedli and Myles Schriml, scripture readers: Haley Freriks, intentions; Dylan Hudema and Jordan Dierker, giftbearers; Kassandra Dierker and Haley Freriks, memorial table attendants; and Justin Hudema, urnbearer. Music ministry was provided by organist Ardelle Hautzinger. Interment followed at Holy Trinity R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
