LLOYDMINSTER, Sask. – A 47-year-old Radisson man has a trial scheduled in Lloydminster Saskatchewan Provincial Court on April 23. Brent Adair Habetler, who legally changed his name to Sir Brent Adair Habetler, will also be back in court on Feb. 10 for some of his charges to be spoken to.
Habetler faces charges of disobeying a court order, unauthorized possession of a firearm, three counts of unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a firearm knowing its possession was unauthorized.
The charges were a result of an investigation by the Saskatchewan RCMP's Battleford General Investigations Section, RCMP High Risk Offender Unit, RCMP Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team, RCMP Crime Reduction Team, RCMP Federal Support Services and RCMP Saskatchewan Highway Patrol and the Wilton Police Service.
On Oct. 16, 2024, numerous RCMP officers had gone to Habetler’s home in Radisson. RCMP say they found three loaded, unsecured firearms.
The police investigation by several joint forces was launched after Maidstone RCMP say they identified an adult male who approached and spoke to a young child at a playground at Sandy Beach Regional Park on Aug. 27, 2024. During the investigation, police say they identified the man as being Habetler, and that he was on an Alberta court-ordered peace bond with conditions not to be at a playground.
Habetler had entered into a peace bond in November 2023 in Lloydminster Alberta Court of Justice. A two-day trial on the charges resulting from an incident at the Lloydminster, Alta., swimming pool had been scheduled for January 2024, but the charges were withdrawn after he entered into the peace bond ordering Habetler not to be at any swimming pool, daycare, day school, or youth centre for one year.
On the new charges, Habetler was remanded in custody and appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court in October 2024. He was released by the court on conditions including wearing an electronic ankle bracelet and 24-hour house arrest. He was ordered not to be in any area where there are children under the age of 16 for schooling or recreation, and not to possess any firearms.
