MAIDSTONE – A 47-year-old man known as Sir Brent Habetler has been arrested by Maidstone RCMP.
On Oct. 16, police arrested Habetler in Radisson. During the arrest and a search of a residence, say RCMP, officers found three loaded, unsecured firearms.
RCMP charged Habetler with disobeying a court order, unauthorized possession of a firearm, three counts of unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a firearm knowing its possession was unauthorized.
The arrest was the result of an investigation by Maidstone RCMP after they say they identified an adult male who approached and spoke to a young child at a playground at Sandy Beach Regional Park on Aug. 27.
During the investigation, police determined that he was on court-ordered peace bond conditions not to be at a playground.
Habetler had entered into a peace bond in November 2023 in Lloydminster Alberta Court of Justice. A two-day trial on charges resulting from an incident at the Lloydminster, Alta., swimming pool had been scheduled for January 2024 but charges were withdrawn after he entered into the peace bond ordering Habetler not to be at any swimming pool, daycare, day school, or youth centre for one year.
On the new charges, Habetler was remanded in custody and appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Oct. 22. He was released by the court on conditions including wearing an electronic ankle bracelet and 24-hour house arrest. He was ordered not to be in any area where there are children under the age of 16 for schooling or recreation, and not to possess any firearms.
He is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on Nov. 26.
