Photos, video: North Battleford Fall Blast hosts kite flying event

At the City of North Battleford's Fall Blast Festival, there was something for everyone at the Aquatic Centre, the NationsWEST field house, or the Plaza.

NORTH BATTLEFORD — Since the 1st of September, the City of North Battleford has hosted or sponsored 10 events to honour InnovationPlex’s 10th anniversary, ranging from Family Fun Day to free movies at the field house or the pool. When September’s events culminated this Saturday with the City of North Battleford's Fall Blast Festival, there was something for everyone at the Aquatic Centre, the NationsWEST field house, or the Plaza.

“All of our events throughout the month of September have been really well attended, now families can celebrate all of the fall flavours that are upon us here in the Battlefords,” said Candace Toma, public relations co-ordinator for the City of North Battleford.

The city-run event started with a pancake breakfast, followed by family-friendly activities. Children enjoyed arts and crafts, face painting, temporary tattoos, and carnival games in courts 1 and 2 of the Fieldhouse. At 11, kite flying took place in the field across from the InnovationPlex, and the first 50 families received free kites to take home.

During the lunch hour, the Discovery Co-op provided a barbecue lunch, and from 1:30 to 4 p.m., the aquatic centre had pool inflatables and features in the pool. At 1:30, the city held a mini powwow with more than 100 dancers in partnership with local Indigenous communities, including a friendship dance so everyone could participate.

“There is always that possibility that if there is enough excitement and enthusiasm, we may want to continue something like this in the future,” said Toma.
