Cocaine, handgun and baton seized in Air Ronge traffic stop

On Feb. 2, at approximately 1 a.m., RCMP officers with the La Ronge CRT initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of Far Reserve Road and Mikisiw Drive.

AIR RONGE - Saskatchewan RCMP’s La Ronge Crime Reduction Team (CRT) seized one kilogram of cocaine during a recent traffic stop in Air Ronge.

On Feb. 2, at approximately 1 a.m., RCMP officers with the La Ronge CRT initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of Far Reserve Road and Mikisiw Drive.

During the traffic stop, officers determined the female driver’s licence had been suspended and a male passenger had an active warrant for his arrest. As officers were arresting the wanted male, they located and seized a small amount of cocaine. Officers proceeded to arrest the driver of the vehicle and two remaining occupants – a male and a female.

While searching the vehicle, officers located and seized approximately one kilogram of cocaine, a handgun, ammunition, a baton, and additional drug trafficking paraphernalia.

As a result of the investigation, the following individuals are facing multiple firearms and drug charges:

  • A 19-year-old man from Sucker River.
  • A 27-year-old woman from Stanley Mission.
  • A 24-year old woman from La Ronge.
  • A 32-year-old man from Sucker River.
  • one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine;
  • one count, unsafe storage of firearms;
  • one count, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized;
  • one count, possession of a firearm in motor vehicle;
  • one count, possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without licence/registration; and
  • one count, possession of a firearm with serial number removed.

Additionally, the 19 year old man is facing one count, possession of a firearm contrary to order; and one count, fail to comply with probation orders.

The 32-year-old man is also facing one count, possession of a firearm contrary to order.

The four accused made their first appearance in provincial court from La Ronge on Feb. 3.
