Unity’s Town Council will welcome two additions

Brett Lang and Darryl Stubbs will be joining town council for the next four years.

UNITY – A mix of new and experienced individuals have been elected for the next four years in Unity. Bob Abel, who has been a councillor for many years, was acclaimed as mayor prior to election day. With his move into the new position and Rick Hill stepping down from council, two seats were available.

Seeking re-election was Chris Halter, Brent Weber, Ryan Sernecky and Curtis McLean with Brett Lang, Darryl Stubbs and Chris Lefebvre throwing their names at the ballots, hopeful to be welcomed into the chambers.

Halter and Weber secured their seats with 304 votes each, along with Sernecky and McLean at 300 votes a piece. For the three looking to earn their spot at the table, it was Lang and Stubbs who gained the votes at 283 and 183, respectively. Lefebvre received 179 votes.

Unity’s voter turnout was less than ideal, with only 25 per cent of the eligible voters coming out to vote according to Returning Officer, Aileen Garrett. Of the 1,500 eligible voters, only 377 cast their ballots.
