SASKATOON — Two people, both wanted on outstanding warrants, have been charged after evading police in a stolen vehicle.
A 30-year-old Saskatoon woman and a 34-year-old Blaine Lake man are facing 29 criminal code charges.
Saskatoon police say that at approximately 9:30 p.m., March 17, members of the Air Support Unit spotted a suspicious vehicle being driven in the area of 33rd Street West and Junor Avenue. When a ground unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle, the driver refused and began evading the patrol unit, at times at excessive speeds, into oncoming lanes of traffic.
The Chevrolet Equinox travelled out of the city, west on Highway 14, where members of ASU spotted what appeared to be a gun and ammunition being thrown from the vehicle. Subsequently the suspect vehicle ran off a grid road and became stuck. The occupants of the vehicle were arrested.
Police say the Equinox and license plate were found to be stolen. In addition, a sawed-off shotgun was later found at the location where the suspects were seen by the ASU to have thrown it from the vehicle.
The male and female are now facing 29 charges including dangerous driving, evade police, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, possession of stolen property over $5,000, along with numerous weapons offences. Both were wanted on outstanding warrants, and the male was found to be in breach of conditional sentence and probation.
