Saskatoon psychiatrist charged with fraud of more than $90,000

A Saskatoon psychiatrist has been charged after allegedly fraudulently charging a government agency more than $90,000.

SASKATOON – A Saskatoon psychiatrist has been charged with fraud over $5,000 after an investigation by Saskatoon Police Service’s Economic Crime Section found that a government agency had been defrauded of more than $90,000.

Police say that the 65-year-old -psychiatrist, whom they didn’t name, billed for fraudulent services between September of 2017 and December of 2018.

The police started their investigation after getting a notice in February 2022 from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan of suspected fraudulent activity relating to the medical billings of a Saskatoon psychiatrist.

The psychiatrist turned himself into Saskatoon Police Service on July 25. He is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon court on Aug. 28.
