SASKATOON - Saskatoon Police Service responded to two separate incidents today involving Conducted Energy Weapons (CEW) being deployed.

The first incident occurred at 9:30 a.m. on March 24, when police received a report of a break-in at a residence near the intersection of Carrothers Court and Junor Avenue. According to the report, a suspect entered the home armed with a wrench and threatened a woman before fleeing the scene.

Upon arrival, police officers located a 43-year-old man who matched the suspect description. The suspect failed to comply with police instructions and charged at an officer. In response, a CEW was deployed to subdue him. Despite resisting arrest, the suspect was eventually taken into custody. Further investigation revealed that the wrench had been stolen from a nearby residence. One of the officers involved sustained a minor injury during the altercation. The suspect has been charged with break and enter, theft, uttering threats, and assaulting a police officer.

The second incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the 3800 block of Fairlight Drive when police were called to respond to a report of a man with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers found a 40-year-old man threatening self-harm with a knife. Police attempted to de-escalate the situation, but eventually, a CEW was deployed to safely take the man into custody. He was then taken to the hospital for further assessment.

Both incidents will be reviewed in accordance with SPS policy.
