MEADOW LAKE – A 23-year-old man, Kashtin Sandfly, who was wanted by police and considered dangerous, had a court appearance scheduled July 5. He was remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned to Aug. 2 in Pierceland Circuit Court.
RCMP were searching for Sandfly a couple times. First in December 2021, and then again in October 2022 after he was granted bail but broke his release conditions. He had been required to be at a residence 24-hours a day.
Sandfly is accused of shooting at a home on Island Lake First Nation in December 2021. Hours later, police helped an injured man – in a vehicle on a remote heavily snowed-covered road – get medical help.
Sandfly was charged with discharging a firearm with intent and being in a vehicle knowing there was a firearm. He also had charges in Lloydminster court of possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime.
Sandfly’s co-accused, Harold Mitsuing Jr., and Andrew Opikokew also had court appearances July 5. Opikokew has been denied bail and is back in Pierceland Circuit Court Aug. 2.
