SASKATOON – A 34-year-old man has been arrested following an 11-hour stand-off with Saskatoon Police Tuesday.
On Nov. 21, members of the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) Guns and Gangs Unit observed a man wanted on criminal code warrants and believed to be in possession of firearms enter a home in the 1700 block of 22nd Street West. Following an approximately 11-hour standoff with police that involved the assistance of multiple purpose-trained police teams, he was taken into custody in the early morning hours of Nov. 22 without further incident.
A search of the residence led to the seizure of a sawed-off .22-calibre rifle, a high-velocity imitation handgun, ammunition, and two cans of bear spray.
He has been charged with several weapons-related offences in addition to mischief under $5,000 for wilfully damaging police property during the incident. His criminal code warrants, including failure to comply with court-imposed conditions, were also executed at this time.
Traffic restrictions that were in place for the duration of this incident have since been removed. Police thank members of the public for their accommodation of the closures.
