BEAVER FLAT – A former NHLer with Saskatchewan ties was arrested after an assault.
The charges of uttering a threat to cause death and assault stem from an incident on April 10 when Swift Current Rural RCMP responded to a call in the Resort Village of Beaver Flat, in the RM of Excelsior.
"The male victim did not sustain any physical injury and did not require medical assistance," said RCMP in a media release.
After investigation, David "Tiger" Williams, 69, of Calgary was arrested without incident. He was released on an undertaking, and was scheduled for an initial court appearance in Swift Current Provincial Court on May 10. He did not appear in person on that date, but the matter will again be heard on May 24.
Williams is originally from Weyburn and played in the NHL from 1974 to 1988 for teams including the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, and the Hartford Whalers. He also spent three seasons with the Swift Current Broncos.
This isn't the first time Williams has had a run in with the law, back on Feb. 9, 2018, he was charged with sexual assault during a military trip to Latvia. The charges were withdrawn by the Crown, however, after Williams issued an apology.
