Kelly Castel, subject of dangerous persons alert, arrested

Saskatchewan RCMP extended a dangerous person alert for the areas surrounding Cumberland House.

CUMBERLAND HOUSE – Update 2: Emergency Response Team officers, who were brought in to assist with the search for the escaped inmates, were conducting patrols in The Pas earlier this morning and located Kelly Castel near Halcrow Avenue. Castel fled on foot and additional police units including Police Dog Services, Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Unit [drone] and The Pas detachment members immediately responded to the area.

Update: The Saskatchewan RCMP Dangerous Person Alert has been cancelled in relation to escaped inmates from The Pas Correctional Centre in Manitoba. 

Saskatchewan residents are asked to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to police. In an emergency, always call 911. Any tips or information relating to this incident should be reported to police immediately.

Xander Tardiff has been located and was arrested without incident. He is now in police custody. RCMP continue to search for Kelly Castel. Anyone with information in relation to Kelly Castel is asked to contact The Pas RCMP at 204-627-6200.

On May 8, at 11:30 p.m., at the request of the Manitoba RCMP, Saskatchewan RCMP extended a dangerous person alert for the areas surrounding Cumberland House. 

RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in locating escaped inmates, Xander William Tardiff, 19, who is five-foot-11 and 180 pounds and Kelly John Castel, 21, who is five-foot-nine and weighs 135 pounds.
