YORKTON – The Kinsmen Club of Yorkton has donated $50,000 to the construction of a new sports media tower at Sacred Heart High School.
"It's something we definitely needed and we're really appreciative to the Kinsmen Club for the donation," said Garrett Karcha, Teacher, Atheltic Director and Head Football Coach at SHHS in interview with Yorkton This Week.
"$66,000 is what the project was listed at...but it definitely covers more than enough," said Karcha.
"I think this is a great thing because it's going to be used for both football and soccer," said Karcha," alot of teams come in and they require an area to be able to take video of the games and those kinds of things ... I think just having a new facility like that draws attention and it's kind of exciting for the kids."
Construction for the project is expected to begin in July and be finished for the fall sports season, according Rachel Sterzuk, Principal of SHHS. Sterzuk noted she is "grateful" for the donation from the Kinsmen's support for the school and the community.
"The Kinsmen Club just wantes to support the community because the community supports us so we're all about giving back towards the kids ... helping develop and making sure everybody can make a go," said Lawrence Klemetski, Vice President of the Kinsmen Club of Yorkton.
"With football being great in the city of Yorkton — we've supported the YRHS and Yorkton Minor Football in their programs — this equals out for everybody in the game of football," said Klemetski.
