The Town of Preeceville will be joining other communities across the province in celebrating Seniors鈥� Week from September 28 to October 4.

The Sturgis READ Club and community members joined in support of the STARS air ambulance with a barbecue luncheon at the club on September 4. 鈥淭he support was overwhelming with $1,756 raised for STARS,鈥� said Betty Lou Skogen.

( see photo gallery below ..) A 145-pound pumpkin entered by Tom Babchishin of Preeceville topped the scales for top spot at the annual Town of Preeceville pumpkin contest held at the Preeceville Centennial Park on September 12.

It obviously isn鈥檛 all bad news. In fact, under the circumstances of being in another recession and the continued fall in oil prices, Saskatchewan鈥檚 August job numbers weren鈥檛 quite as bad as some thought they would be.

The editor: Once again we have propaganda about how the federal Tories help western Canada. Let the record show just how helpful they are to agriculture.

In 2011, a 鈥�500year flood鈥� struck the Souris Valley. Saturated soil from the year before, combined with a heavy spring runoff, were met with two inches of rain each Monday for nearly two months.

When I was growing up on a small mixed farm a half century ago summerfallow was the norm when it came to crop planning. Farmers just naturally left one-third to one-half of their cropable land fallow each year.

The editor: The 铿俹oding in the Quill Lakes area is no longer just the problem of a few farmers, it is soon to become everyone鈥檚 problem. Every taxpayer has a stake in this.
