OUTLOOK - On Sunday, January 12, at Outlook Legion Hall, Dennis Fuglerud was honoured for his long, dedicated service to the RM of Rudy.
Over 18 years, Dennis contributed his time, wisdom and leadership to the council at the RM, including three terms as Reeve. This past fall, Dennis said it was time to step aside for someone else to take on the job.
Incoming Reeve Kent Harrington thanked Dennis for his guidance and role modelling over the years. During Dennis's time in office, some of the notable events affecting the RM included the installation of the Namaka Feedlot, the expansion in irrigation, growth in potato and vegetable production, and the reclassification of some of Highway 219 to 9-month Primary Weight, and the rest of it to year-round Primary Weight.
Dennis was there when the RM moved from shared accommodations with the Town of Outlook to their own office in the Village of Broderick. He was also instrumental in strengthening the relations with the Town, and in fact the two councils were recognized in 2024 for teamwork as they joined together for the Outlook-Rudy Fire and Protective Services and a new Fire Hall currently underway.
The Town of Outlook Mayor Ryan Husband was in attendance and thanked both Dennis and Linda Fuglerud for their service to our communities.
Dennis said he was glad for the opportunity to work with great people. He said some things were not easy to do, but he never regretted the time in office. Now, he says he is looking forward to working on the family ranch and spending time with grandchildren.
The crowd celebrated with Dennis's favorites: pie, cookies and coffee.
