SASKATOON – A 21-year-old woman, who was wanted by Saskatoon Police and arrested by Humboldt RCMP on new charges, keeps firing her legal aid lawyers causing delays.
Trinity McKenzie appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court by CCTV Thursday from Pine Grove Correctional Centre and was told she has to reapply for legal aid.
McKenize, from Little Red River Cree Nation, along with 54-year-old Victor Bairos, Tyra Ratt, 21, and Lindsay Siemens, 58, were arrested in September after Humboldt RCMP noticed a suspicious parked vehicle while patrolling in Bruno. When police approached the vehicle they saw a weapon in plain sight.
Police searched the vehicle and seized 1.16 kg of suspected methamphetamine, 37.9 grams of suspected gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), drug trafficking paraphernalia, as well as ammunition, brass knuckles and pepper spray.
In that incident, McKenzie was charged with possession of property obtained by crime, possession for the purpose of trafficking, obstruction of a peace officer, failing to comply with a release order, and failing to comply with a probation order. Saskatoon Police wanted her on 12 weapons related offences, failing to appear in court, failing to comply with a probation order, and failing to comply with a release order.
McKenzie appears in court again on Jan. 4, 2022.
