Loose change in desks and a day’s deposits were stolen from the Kamsack town office when it was illegally entered the night of August 26/27.

It was discovered at 6 a.m. on August 27 that someone had entered the building after 8 p.m. the preceding night, Laura Lomenda, town administrator, said. The building was entered through a back entrance to the furnace room after a lock was broken.

There was no vandalism, Lomenda said, But the large, walk-in vault in the main office had been drilled into providing access to the vault from where the day’s deposits had been taken.

The town office has not been the target of an incident of break-and-enter in the many years that can be remembered, she said. The only incident was several years ago when a rock had been thrown at a window.

One of the Yorkton members doing the investigation told Lomenda that they had been investigating a number of similar incidents at municipal offices. The matter is still under investigation, a Kamsack RCMP spokesman said on Friday. “We have no suspects.â€

Persons with any information on the incident are asked to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
