SASKATOON — Saskatoon police deployed a Taser Tuesday to stop a woman from harming herself with a knife.

A Saskatoon Police Service media release says that at approximately 10:30 a.m, April 26, they received a report of a woman threatening to harm herself at Avenue E North and 31st Street West. Upon arrival, patrol officers and a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team located a 23-year-old woman outside at the location. She was armed with a knife.

When the woman moved the knife in an effort to commit harm to herself, a conducted energy weapon was deployed. The woman was assessed at the scene as a precaution by Medavie Health Services and transported to Royal University Hospital. Members of the Police and Crisis Team will conduct a follow-up with the woman.

The incident will be reviewed in accordance with policy.
