YORKTON - You might say the luck of the Irish will be with Bruno’s Place in Yorkton this St. Patrick’s Day.
And that good luck will be thanks to Lowell Oshowy.
Oshowy will be dressing up as a leprechaun this Sunday and visiting various Yorkton businesses throughout the afternoon, ending up at Tapp’s Sports Lounge. Along the way he will be collecting donations from anyone interested in helping out the homeless shelter in the city.
“I just kind of thought of it (the fundraiser),” said Oshowy, adding he wanted to dress as a leprechaun, something he has done before, but this time the project is bigger.
Oshowy said it is rather natural for him too.
“I am who I am, a ‘little person’,” he related.
So wanting to dress up anyway, Oshowy said, “I thought I’d make it a good thing and raise some money for charity.”
Bruno’s Place was an obvious choice as the recipient of whatever he raises.
“The church I go to are affiliated with it (the shelter),” he said, adding he is aware there is a need and Bruno’s Place helps address “to help the homeless of Yorkton.
“It felt like a good place to put the money.”
In planning the fundraising effort Oshowy said he spoke with those at Tapp’s and once they heard his plan they were on side, making a donation, and agreeing “to pass the bucket” when he visits to end his effort Sunday.
The day calls for Oshowy to attend the aforementioned church, then head out to tour the city. He said people are welcome to stop him with a donation, or to have a picture taken, or just to chat. He expects to be around the city from 1-5 p.m. before heading to Tapp’s.
