PREECEVILLE - For many, skating and hockey represent an exciting time, often leading to a busy schedule filled with activities. On Jan. 18, however, hockey players and skaters across the region paused to remember Jack Prien during a memorial skate at the Preeceville Skating Arena, where free hot chocolate was provided.

Jack was well known for his extensive volunteer work, dedicating countless hours to various organizations in Preeceville. He was a familiar presence at sporting events, the curling rink, and the hockey arena, always ready to lend a hand and support others.

The Preeceville Minor Hockey Association recognized Jack for his significant financial contributions as well as his dedication and volunteerism spanning nearly 70 years. For 45 of those years, he served as the sole official scorekeeper for all hockey games held at the Preeceville Arena. Although Jack never played hockey himself, he loved watching the kids play and positively impacted the lives of countless hockey families over the years.

Jack sadly passed away on Feb. 12, 2024. “He may be gone from this world, but we continue to remember and honour his memory through events like the Memorial Skate,” said his close friend, Candace Kuta.
