Bringing the spirit of Christmas to needy Canora and area families

Community support key to bringing Christmas joy to area children

CANORA — Even as they continue to deal with the ongoing pandemic, Canora and area residents once again  showed their support for the annual Fill The Sleigh Day at The Red Apple Store on December 11 as part of the Yuletide Toy Drive.

In addition to toy donations, the event raised a total of $1,500. Red Apple donated an additional 10 per cent of all the day’s sales back to the Yuletide Toy Drive for additional toy purchases, a total of $897.

Jocelyn Weinbender, spokesperson, was very appreciative of all the support for the Fill The Sleigh Day, as well as the toy drive overall.

“It was all very successful,” said Weinbender. “Everything comes together because of the community. It wouldn’t happen without community support and the support of Red Apple, as well as everyone at Aspen Paramedic Services, who allowed us to use an ambulance for filling with toys during Fill The Sleigh Day, and also looked after toy deliveries.”

As of December 17, a total of 19 families had requested toys for 48 children.

Local volunteers who helped out during Fill The Sleigh Day included: Aidyn and Jaylene Kaytor, Josh McLeod, Aubrie Monette, Daylia and Zennia Lukey, Chance Weinbender, Jayden Dergousoff, Alissa and Ryan Monette, and Jocelyn Weinbender.

“Thanks to everyone who donated time and money for their generosity, for making all this  possible,” concluded Weinbender.
