RCMP Report: Dangerous prohibited driver speeds through Canora

Police received a complaint of a prohibited driver southbound on Highway 9 by Crystal Lake. The vehicle was located north of Canora but the driver sped up and did not stop for police. The driver reached speeds of over 100 kilometres an hour when traveling on Norway Road through Canora.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 44 calls from Feb. 16 to 23, including a hit-and-run on First Avenue West in Canora. A grey Volkswagen Jetta was parked on the street when an unknown vehicle struck it, causing damage to the rear driver side of the vehicle.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 44 calls from Feb. 16 to 23, some of which included: two 911 calls, one animal call, one assault, one assault with a weapon, two impaired operation of a motor vehicle calls, one flight from police, one failure to comply with a probation order, one failure to comply with release conditions, one false alarm, two frauds, four Mental Health Act calls, three mischiefs, one suspicious person, two thefts, one traffic collision, 16 traffic offenses, one uttering threats, and two wellbeing checks

Snowmobile registration theft

On Feb. 18, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint that a snowmobile registration and licence plate was stolen from a 2022 Ski-Doo Summit when it was parked outside the Pioneer Hotel in Endeavor between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. A gasoline jerry can was also stolen from another complainant. Dangerous driving

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint on Feb. 19 of a prohibited driver operating a maroon-coloured Impala southbound on Highway 9 by Crystal Lake. The Impala was located north of Canora but the driver sped up and did not stop for police. The driver reached speeds of over 100 kilometres an hour when traveling on Norway Road through Canora. Police did not pursue the vehicle. The driver of the Impala was charged and is wanted for flight from police, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Female assaulted

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report that a female was assaulted in Canora on Feb. 21. A male was arrested for assault and failing to comply with an undertaking condition not to have contact with the female. The male was remanded into custody.

Who let the dog out?

On Feb. 21, a female from Preeceville called the Canora RCMP Detachment and left a message alleging her residence was broken into by someone who let out her dog. Efforts to contact the complainant have been unsuccessful as the caller appears to be avoiding police.

Oops!

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Feb. 22 to an alarm call in Preeceville. Police called the homeowner who admitted to setting off the alarm and then forgetting the password needed to turn it off.

Not impaired

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver in Canora on Feb. 22. Police located the vehicle parked on Main Street and spoke to the driver who was found not to be impaired.

Shrub-eating moose

On Feb. 22, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report of a moose eating shrubs by the North Prairie Mennonite School in the RM of Preeceville. As the moose did not pose any harm to adults or children, further police involvement was not required.

Hit-and-run

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report on Feb. 23 of a hit-and-run on First Avenue West in Canora. A grey Volkswagen Jetta was parked on the street when an unknown vehicle struck it, causing damage to the rear driver side of the vehicle.
