Preeceville/Canora combined teams win two at Hockey Day in Sask

The Preeceville Pats U11 and U13 teams, made up of players from both Preeceville and Canora, won games over Kamsack and Churchbridge respectively during Canora’s Hockey Day in Saskatchewan on Jan. 19.

CANORA - The Preeceville Pats U11 and U13 teams, made up of players from both Preeceville and Canora, each played games at Canora’s Hockey Day in Saskatchewan on Jan. 19.

The U11 Pats won a tense 4-3 nail biter over the Kamsack Flyers, while the U13 team had an easier time of it, defeating Churchbridge 12-1

In the U11 game, the Pats fell behind 2-0 before storming back in the second period with four straight goals to take the lead by Koy Babiuk, Drae Peterson, Nate Johnson and Mae McTavish, who also had an assist. That fourth goal turned out to be extremely important, as the Flyers scored in the third to cut the lead to 4-3, but that was the final goal of the game. Pats Coach Conrad Peterson said the players were excited to be introduced individually before the game, something that was done throughout the week in Canora.

“It was a very exciting game!” said Peterson. “Kamsack had beaten us twice earlier in the season, which made this win even better. Braden Skibinsky had an amazing game in goal.”

He said playing during Hockey Day in front of a large crowd was a good experience for his team.

With the victory, the Pats improve to five wins and four losses on the season.

“We’re getting better all the time, seeing significant improvement in our team,” said Peterson, adding, “We’d like to thank the Hockey Day in Saskatchewan organizing committee for all the effort.”

The U13 Pats/Cobras combined team followed with a 12-1 win over the Churchbridge Imperials. Nixon Lukey had a strong game in goal, assisting on one of the Pats goals and only losing his shutout with under two minutes left in the third period.

Landon Erickson led the offense with five goals. Ridge Kriger added a pair, while single goal scorers were: Bennett Halkyard, Declan Unick, Ryder Severson, Dillon Serdachny and Lloyd Nokinsky.
