Canora/Sturgis RCMP report: Sausage thief appears in court

A male attended Canora Provincial Court and plead guilty to a shoplifting charge. He received 12 months probation and was ordered to pay $10.99 in restitution for the sausage sticks he stole.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 25 calls from Nov. 3 to Nov. 9, including a report that two tires with rims were stolen from inside a Dodge Caravan parked in Canora.

 

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 25 calls from Nov. 3 to Nov. 9, some of which included: one uttering threats, one driving while prohibited, one theft, one fraud, 12 traffic offences, one traffic collision, one Coroners Act call, one mischief, one failing to comply with undertaking, two Mental Health Act calls, one wellbeing check, and two other provincial calls.

Sausage thief

On Nov. 3, a male attended Canora Provincial Court and plead guilty to a shoplifting charge. The male received 12 months probation and was ordered to pay $10.99 in restitution for the sausage sticks he stole.

Tires stolen

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report on Nov. 3 that two tires with rims were stolen from inside a Dodge Caravan parked in Canora. If you have any information about this incident, please contact the Canora RCMP, or you can also report anonymously via Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers. 

Don’t lie to police

At 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 5, police initiated a vehicle stop with a white Chevy Silverado driving on Canora Beach Road in the RM of Good Lake. The driver of the vehicle provided a false name to the police; however, the investigating officer recognized the male driver as someone else. The driver was arrested for obstructing a police officer, failing to comply with a probation order and driving while prohibited. The driver was remanded into custody to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court.

Collision in Canora

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision in Canora on Nov. 7. A south-bound vehicle drove over the meridian on Norway Road and collided with a north-bound truck. The driver of the south- bound car was pronounced deceased on scene. The investigation continues, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

Impaired collision

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle collision in Preeceville on Nov. 7. Police attended and determined the driver was impaired by drug. Police continue to investigate.

Snow removal spat

On Nov. 8, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a neighbour feud over the removal of snow from a parking lot. Police attended and spoke to both parties involved. 

Unwelcome visitor

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP conducted a vehicle stop in Canora on Nov. 9. The driver of the vehicle was parked outside a residence they were prohibited from attending. The driver was arrested for failing to comply with conditions of their undertaking. A small quantity of cocaine was found on the driver at the time of their arrest. Police continue to investigate.
