Weyburn Police Service swears in new chief

WEYBURN - The City of Weyburn swore in the new Police Chief on September 5, 2024. The ceremony was held place at City Hall outside Council Chambers. This event marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Weyburn Police Service, as Brent VanDeSype officially assumed the role of Police Chief on September 1.

VanDeSype, who had been serving as Interim Police Chief, will bring a wealth of experience and leadership to the position. His transition from interim to permanent Police Chief reflects the City’s confidence in his ability to lead the Weyburn Police Service effectively.

Ron McCormick of the Weyburn Police Commission expressed his confidence in VanDeSype, stating, “We are thrilled to have Interim Police Chief VanDeSype step into the role of Weyburn Police Chief. His leadership during his time as Deputy Police Chief and Interim Police Chief has been outstanding, and we are confident that he will continue to strengthen the Weyburn Police Service.”
