Santa and Mrs. Claus have confirmed their attendance at the Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 8.

MOOSE JAW — Santa Claus is coming to town, and he’s bringing the holiday spirit with him as he and Mrs. Claus attend the 14th annual Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade to spread a little Christmas cheer for children of all ages.

The Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade will return to Main Street Moose Jaw on Sunday, Dec. 8.

All parade participants are asked to meet at the Town ‘N’ Country Mall at 4:30 p.m. and the parade will follow at 6 p.m. Afterwards, guests will have a chance to meet Old Kris Kringle and Mrs. Claus at the Moose Jaw Events Centre — where the parade concludes — at 7 p.m.

“(The Santa Claus Parade) is an annual event that the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Club puts on,” announced Robert Lane, the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Club’s Christmas Parade chair.

“It brings cheer and joy to the city (and) it’s for young and for old,” he said. “It’s just something we’ve always done and we‘ve always led the way in doing it for the community.”

With no anticipated modifications from last year, the parade will once again form up at the Town ‘N’ Country Mall, proceed down Main Street North, turn west down the zero block of High Street West and then First Avenue Northwest to conclude at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

When the parade concludes, guests are invited to attend the Events Centre where Santa Claus will be distributing hot chocolate and cookies and posing for family pictures as the Kinsmen Club lights its festively decorated Christmas tree.

The parade is expected to contain many of its welcomed traditional entries, however, Lane did reveal that “one interesting new float” may bring a few surprises this time around.

“Some elves will be making the tour down from the North Pole to turn on some lights as the parade route goes down Main Street this year,” he said. Any details beyond this will have to come as a surprise as guests witness the parade take shape.

“We look forward to seeing everyone out,” Lane concluded. “It’s just a nice way to start the holidays and get everybody in the spirit and get everybody going. Just get ready to be safe again this year and enjoy yourself.”

All parade entries must abide by two simple rules: No entry is permitted to include Santa Claus or Mrs. Claus as they’re already in attendance, and each float must be appropriately decorated for the Christmas season.

If you still haven’t registered your float you’re in luck — entries are still being accepted until the deadline of Saturday, Nov. 30.

Parade entries are being managed by the . To register, contact the Chamber to acquire a registration form by email at [email protected] or by phone at 306-692-6414. The Chamber of Commerce is located at 88 Saskatchewan Street East.

Registered parade participants will meet starting at 4:30 p.m. at the former Zellers parking lot of the Town ‘N’ Country Mall, located at 1235 Main Street North.
